Another 2 level crossings will be gone from the Frankson Line, and the new premium Mordialloc Station will open to passengers on Thursday 21 May, following a 3 week construction blitz.
Buses will replace trains on sections of the Frankston Line from Thursday night 30 April until the first service on Thursday 21 May, while crews work around the clock to remove the dangerous and congested level crossings at McDonald Street, Mordialloc and Station Street, Aspendale, and install new rail tracks and overhead wiring for 2 new rail bridges.
When train services return, passengers will use the new elevated Mordialloc Station, with lift and stair access to the new platforms, entrances at each end of the station, a passenger waiting room, toilets, and seating. Finishing works across the station precinct and car parks will continue until later in the year.
During the May works blitz, McDonald Street will be closed between Nepean Highway and Albert Street from Thursday 30 April to Thursday 21 May to allow crews work to safely remove the level crossing. Detours will be in place and people should allow extra travel time through the area.
The level crossing at Station Street will close permanently at the rail line from Thursday 30 April, and the new link road connecting Station Street to Nepean Highway will open to vehicles once trains return to the Frankston Line on Thursday 21 May. Vehicle and pedestrian detours will be in place during works to build the new road intersection.
Removing both level crossings by building 2 new rail bridges will deliver more reliable journeys for locals, with the boom gates currently down for a third of the morning peak.
Feedback from the community has informed the new Mordialloc Station precinct designs, featuring native planting, colours, and materials that reflect Mordialloc’s bayside character.
