Works are progressing on the new link road that will keep locals moving as part of the project to remove the Maddox Road level crossing and build a new pedestrian and cyclist overpass at Champion Road.
Extending Akuna Drive will connect Champion Road to a boom gate free Maddox Road, and increase car parking in the local area, including about 80 new car spaces on both sides of Akuna Drive and 50 new car spaces on Park Crescent.
Crews have been busy asphalting the new road, and progressing works on the new Maddox Road and Launceston Street intersections, and upgrading the Kororoit Creek Road and Maddox Road intersection.
In the coming weeks, crews will start line marking for traffic lanes and car parking spaces.
Nearby, new rail bridges are being built over Maddox Road to separate vehicles and trains, and a new pedestrian and cyclist bridge will soon be installed over the rail line at Champion Road.
Once the project is complete, about 230 native trees and more than 35,000 plants, shrubs and grasses will be planted throughout the area.
