Setting up site in Mordialloc

Back to Newsfeed

The McDonald Street, Mordialloc and Station Street, Aspendale level crossings are a step closer to being gone for good with construction sites starting to take shape this month.

From April, our crews will be setting up sites to support construction activities while we get on with building the elevated rail line and new Mordialloc Station.

The site compounds will include site offices, staff car parking and space to store materials and equipment. Sites will continue to be set up throughout Mordialloc and Aspendale until early 2025.

A program alliance comprising Acciona, WSP and Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) and the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) will deliver the $531 million contract to build the elevated rail bridge and new station in Mordialloc.

The dangerous level crossings will be removed by elevating the rail line and building a new premium Mordialloc Station with modern facilities, all-abilities access, improved lighting, public spaces and landscaping.

A level crossing-free McDonald Street and other improvements to roads in the area will allow for the closure of the Bear Street level crossing, helping create a vibrant station precinct with safe access for pedestrians and cyclists.

The project is now refining the design, with more information to be released ahead of construction starting later this year.

The level crossings will be gone for good in 2026 and the Frankston Line will be level crossing free by 2029, transforming the way locals live, work, and travel.
