Sustainability connects east to west

We’re repurposing the old bus shelters from Pakenham Station to use at Melton while we build the new elevated station.

The level crossings at McGregor Road, Main Street and Racecourse Road in Pakenham were removed in 2024 by building a 2.5km section of elevated rail. The new stations at Pakenham and East Pakenham are now open with the new bus interchange on Railway Avenue closer to the station.

With the new Pakenham Station open, we’ve gone west to start construction on the new Melton Station – and we’ve taken the old bus shelters from Pakenham with us.

We’ll install the decommissioned bus shelters from Pakenham Station as temporary bus stops in Melton, giving passengers seating and a safe place out of the weather to wait for their buses.

These shelters would otherwise be unused, giving the Project an opportunity for sustainability on our projects.

Like Pakenham Station, the new Melton Station will also feature an upgraded bus interchange.

The improved interchange will be located nearer to the Melbourne bound platform, making it easier to connect between train and bus services.

Construction is underway at Melton and the level crossings at Coburns and Exford roads will be gone and the new Melton Station open in 2026.
