The 68th dangerous and congested level crossing is now a thing of the past, with the new Mt Derrimut Road rail bridge and new Deer Park Station open to passengers in Melbourne’s west.
The new, staffed station has opened to commuters, with trains running again after a 14-day construction blitz.
More than 300 people worked around the clock to remove the level crossing, demolish the old Deer Park Station and continue building the new station.
While works continue on the station, temporary access arrangements are in place. Platform 2 (Geelong and Ballarat trains) is accessible by stairs only. Platform 1 (city-bound trains) is accessible via ramp. Lifts and the remaining ramps and stairs will be complete in mid 2023.
Passengers who are unable to use the stairs to and from Platform 2 for any reason can catch an accessible shuttle service to nearby stations. These are available from the temporary commuter car park on Station Road. Visit the V/Line website for shuttle information.
When the new, modern Deer Park Station is complete in late 2023, it will include an air-conditioned waiting room, 150 new and upgraded car parks, a multi-bay bus interchange and pick-up/drop-off zones.
There will also be landscaping around the precinct and improved connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists, including a north-south connection between both sides of the new station.
