Two more level crossings going and a new Mordialloc Station opening soon

A 3-week construction blitz is underway to remove 2 dangerous level crossings and open the brand-new premium Mordialloc Station on Thursday 21 May.

While buses replace trains on sections of the Frankston Line, crews are working 24/7 to open the new station and 2 new rail bridges at McDonald Street, Mordialloc and Station Street, Aspendale.

Crews have removed the boom gates at both level crossings, and over the coming weeks will install the remaining station and rail infrastructure on the new rail bridges that will separate trains from drivers, pedestrians and cyclists for good.

When trains return to the Frankston Line and travel over the new rail bridges, passengers will be welcomed to the new elevated Mordialloc Station, featuring modern platforms with lifts and stairs, entrances at both ends, and improved passenger amenities including a waiting room, toilets and seating.

Buses replace trains on sections of the Frankston Line and McDonald Street is closed between Nepean Highway and Albert Street until Thursday 21 May, with detours in place to keep traffic moving safely through the area.

The Station Street level crossing has now closed permanently at the rail line, with a new link road to Nepean Highway set to open when trains return to the Frankston Line.

Removing the 2 bayside level crossings will deliver more reliable journeys for locals, with the boom gates currently down for a third of the morning peak, and will take the Frankston Line one step closer to being boom gate free by 2029.
