We’re planning to remove the level crossings at Maddox and Champion roads. As part of this, we're undertaking site investigations and seeking local feedback to help shape the project.

We’re elevating the rail line to remove the level crossing at Maddox Road, Newport in 2026. Community consultation and further investigations will inform design improvements to the local traffic network to maintain connectivity between Newport and Williamstown, with a closure the preferred solution for the removal of the level crossing at Champion Road.

Removing these level crossings will allow more trains to run, reduce road congestion, cut travel times, and improve safety. New walking and cycling connections will also be created to improve local access across the rail line.

We’d like the local community to help shape this project by telling us how you move through the area and what’s important to you.

We want to know more about your community in our vision and values survey, including:

  • how you use the area
  • what you like most about your local area
  • what you find most challenging about your local are

Head to Engage Victoria to have your say.

We'll report back on what we heard and share more information about project designs as the project progresses.
