The corner of Bear Street and Main Street Service Road, Mordialloc received a vibrant burst of colour last week with the unveiling of PROGRESS, a striking new woven art installation delivered by local weaving group, Mordi Weavers.
Featuring 99 woven wheels arranged in 3 rows to form a rainbow-inspired design, the installation adds colour and interest to the area and our site office.
The installation is part of Weaving Mordialloc Together, a local initiative aimed at strengthening connections and enhancing public spaces through creative, purposeful weaving.
The Mordi Weavers handcrafted the colourful wheels, and our project team worked with the group to install them, design supporting artwork and produce a permanent plaque to share the story with the wider community.
“Weaving Mordialloc Together is about community coming together and supporting one another through all of life’s moments”, said the community group.
The Mordi Weavers previously worked on the Reclaim the Void project, which concluded in April 2024. The group continued to meet at the Mordialloc Neighbourhood house, inspired by the connections they’d formed and a shared desire to create something meaningful for their community.
The Mordi Weavers plan to continue producing woven artworks to be displayed across the suburb as part of the Weaving Mordialloc Together initiative, transforming everyday places into colourful markers.
