Works ramping up in Mordialloc

Mordialloc will be boom gate free next year, with the recent weekend 24/7 works allowing crews to complete critical work ahead of major construction later this year.

Piling for the foundations of the new elevated rail bridge started, with crews installing sheet piling, positioning overhead electrical infrastructure into place and moving underground services, as well as undertaking signalling and tracks works on the Frankston Line in Mordialloc and Aspendale.

So far, we’ve completed more than 1.2km of trenching for combined service routes and delivered some of the more than 4900 sleepers required for the project.

We’re building rail bridges to get rid of level crossings at McDonald Street, Mordialloc and Station Street, Aspendale, and to close the Bear Street crossing in Mordialloc.

A new elevated station in the heart of Mordialloc will feature modern facilities and improved accessibility, including entrances at both ends of the platforms, improved lighting, public spaces and landscaping.

Removing the level crossings at McDonald and Station streets will deliver more reliable journeys for locals, with the boom gates currently down for a third of the morning peak.

Major works will start in the coming months and the 3 level crossings will be gone, with the new station open in 2026. This will bring the Frankston Line one step closer to being level crossing free by 2029, improving safety and easing congestion on local roads.
