Bridge Inn Road Upgrade celebrates Schools Tree Day

Back to Newsfeed

We were delighted recently to partner with Hazel Glen College in Doreen to celebrate Schools Tree Day.

The Bridge Inn Road Upgrade project team visited Hazel Glen College on Schools Tree Day to donate 200 native plants, which a group of passionate year 2 students planted on the school grounds while proudly wearing our hi-vis vests.

The partnership was formed as the Bridge Inn Road project team sought a local school to work with to help improve amenity in the local community and the college’s students were proactively campaigning to source seeds and plants to vegetate the school grounds – it was the perfect match.

We sourced the plants from a local social enterprise, Brite Nurseries, who provide training and employment to people living with disability.

Schools Tree Day and National Tree Day are opportunities for the whole community to get together to help protect the environment as part of a national initiative established by Planet Ark in 1996.

We've started major works on the Bridge Inn Road Upgrade. The project will add additional lanes in each direction between Plenty Road, Mernda and Yan Yean Road, Doreen, removing a significant bottleneck and improving access to the Mernda Station and Mernda Town Centre.

About 17,000 road users travel on Bridge Inn Road every day, including around 1,500 heavy vehicles.

The Bridge Inn Road Upgrade will be completed by 2025.
