The Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road Upgrade has recorded a key milestone with the Hall Road intersection recently reopening following the completion of the new roundabout.

Works on the roundabout at the Hall and Healesville-Koo Wee Rup roads intersection were completed in late 2022 after the project team finished construction in less than three months.

The new roundabout will ultimately improve safety, particularly for vehicles accessing Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road. The temporary traffic lights at the Hall Road intersection will remain in place until traffic moves on to the new road alignment, enhancing safety for local motorists.

As part of the roundabout works, our team upgraded the road pavement and installed storm water drainage, median strips and underground fauna crossings.

In building the new roundabout, we laid 2,000 tonnes of asphalt and 1.2km of kerbing, and installed 1km of subsoil drainage.

Works to install the new traffic lights at the Greenhills Road intersection have begun.

The new traffic lights will improve safety for drivers turning in and out of Greenhills Road and make it easier and safer for everyone to travel around Pakenham South.

We’re also widening the intersection to allow for extra lanes along Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road, which will move more drivers through the intersection and reduce congestion on Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road.

To safely complete these works, we will need to close Greenhills Road at Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road until mid-March.

Access to local businesses and properties will be maintained at all times during these vital works. Detours will be in place via Southeast Boulevard and Commercial Drive, with delays of up to three minutes expected during peak times. There will be no impact to through traffic on Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road.

People can keep up to date with planned traffic disruptions and detours at bigbuild.vic.gov.au.

The Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Upgrade is adding an extra lane in each direction, upgrading intersections and installing safety barriers between Princes Freeway and Manks Road.

Once complete, the upgrade will deliver significantly safer driving conditions for the 21,000 vehicles who use Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road every day, lowering the risk and severity of crashes.

The Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road Upgrade is expected to be complete by 2025.
