Motorists are now enjoying more reliable journeys on the Monash Freeway, with speed limits returning to 100km/hr.

The long-awaited return of the 100km speed limits from Warrigal Road, Chadstone to Cardinia Road, Pakenham will see motorists spend less time travelling with the boost to capacity created by additional lanes on the freeway.

Stage 2 of the Monash Freeway has been delivered on time and on budget, with motorists already benefiting from boosted capacity, improved traffic flow and increased safety on the major arterial.

36km of new lanes have been added to the Monash and Princes freeways, and existing lanes have been resurfaced as a part of the $1.08 billion upgrade, funded by the Victorian and Australian governments. The Monash Freeway has been expanded with an additional outbound lane from Warrigal Road to Eastlink and inbound from EastLink to Springvale Road, and in both directions from Clyde Road to Cardinia Road.

It comes as access to the Monash Freeway is made safer for Mulgrave residents, with the Police Road outbound entry ramp opening to traffic recently.

The ramp opening is the second of 2 major access changes in Mulgrave, with the opening of the EastLink entry ramp at Jacksons Road in May already seeing safer journeys between the Monash Freeway and EastLink.

It follows the opening of all new and upgraded lanes in June, which has seen the 470,000 motorists who use the Monash Freeway each day benefit from the major boost to capacity.

Crews on Stage 2 of the Monash Freeway Upgrade clocked up over 4 million work hours across the project since works began in 2019. The upgrade also delivered 600 direct jobs during construction in a major boost to the Victorian economy.

Final works for the upgrade will continue in Melbourne’s outer south-east, with the upgrade to O’Shea Road to be open to traffic in August, marking full completion of Stage 2 of the Monash Freeway Upgrade.

O’Shea Road is being upgraded to 3 lanes in each direction between Clyde Road and Soldiers Road and extended to meet the upgraded Beaconsfield Interchange.
