Protecting wildlife and our environment

We’ve been working with Cardinia Men’s Shed Pakenham and Koo Wee Rup Men’s Shed, to construct shelters for the Southern Brown Bandicoots. 6 bandicoot shelters have been installed along the Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road Upgrade project alignment, with more in the works!

These shelters, made from pine and spanning 2 metres in length, provide the local Southern Brown Bandicoots with safe connective corridors while vegetation cover establishes. We’re also working hard to reuse natural resources throughout the project.

Koo Wee Rup Men’s Shed will also be recycling old fence posts that have been removed from the project alignment.

A 2 chamber Microbat nest box has also been installed after observing Microbats onsite. Some birds in the area reuse their nests, so we relocated an inactive Black-shouldered Kite nest that was found.

We’ve donated approximately 500 cubic metres of topsoil to local farmers to top-dress paddocks and grow quality cattle feed (hay, oats, or barley) and donated 72 tonnes of mulch to Koo Wee Rup Secondary College’s new garden bed.
