Accessibility on the Metro Tunnel

Back to Newsfeed

The Metro Tunnel makes it easier for the thousands of Victorians living with a disability to access and get around on public transport.

The 5 new stations – Arden, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall and Anzac – will be among the most accessible on the network and have been designed to cater for people with mobility, physical, sensory and cognitive impairments.

The stations include: escalators and lifts at every entrance, customer service counters and Help Points, generous platform widths, braille signage and tactile ground surface indicators, hearing loops, accessible toilets and Changing Places toilets for people with higher support needs.

The stations will be step-free via escalators and lifts from street level to make it easy for passengers of all abilities and those with mobility aids or prams.

The platforms have been designed to allow the vast majority of passengers to board trains independently, including those in wheelchairs. Metro Trains station staff will be available to assist with boarding at Metro Tunnel stations if required.
