Concourses at Anzac, Parkville and State Library stations open early

Pedestrians have a safe and convenient way to avoid crossing busy roads or easily interchange with the City Loop, thanks to new underground connections built as part of the Metro Tunnel.

The underground walkways at Anzac and Parkville stations are now open – providing pedestrians alternatives to waiting at traffic lights and crossing the busy St Kilda Road, Grattan Street and Royal Parade.

The underground connection between Melbourne Central and State Library Station has also opened early, giving commuters to Melbourne Central Station the choice to exit via the shopping centre as usual or onto Swanston Street through State Library Station’s main entrance.

Switching between trains at State Library Station and Melbourne Central Station will be free when the Metro Tunnel opens.

Opening these pedestrian access areas before train services begin allows Victorians to familiarise themselves with the stations by using the lifts, escalators, and at State Library Station, even the bathrooms!

Concourses are open this week from 9am to 7pm, and from 7am to 7pm from 1 December.

The Metro Tunnel opens this Sunday 30 November.
