Community groups and organisations will share in over $1.6 million through 50 grants and partnerships that have been awarded for local projects as part of the North East Community Fund.

It’s part of a $10 million fund that has been established by the Victorian Government to help support local projects during construction of North East Link. The fund supports projects big and small, bringing lasting community benefits to areas most impacted by construction.

The first round of grants and partnerships have been awarded to community groups and organisations for festivals, events, and upgrades to local infrastructure and community, sporting and recreational facilities.

Recipients for the inaugural round of funding include $6000 for Bundoora Football Netball Club for new uniforms to encourage girls’ participation in junior football, $100,000 for Streeton Primary School to enhance its outdoor community gathering and learning space as part of the school’s permaculture farm, and $20,000 for the Watsonia Traders Association to support its annual family fun day event.

The grants build on the $68 million already invested in new and upgraded local sports grounds across the north east.

Applications for the next round of North East Community Fund grants, partnerships and sponsorships will open next year.
