Major upgrades at Ford Park in Bellfield and Binnak Park in Watsonia North are now complete, ready to help local sports clubs thrive as we build North East Link.

As major construction progresses, sports grounds across Melbourne’s north-east are being upgraded with improved playing surfaces, flood lights and at least 6 brand-new accessible pavilions that include female change rooms.

Binnak Park, Watsonia North

Upgrades include new cricket nets, AFL/cricket oval, field lighting, female friendly change rooms and tree planting to green the area. The new pavilion will also provide a great view for spectators as well as improved car parking on the northern and southern sides of the site.

The upgraded Binnak Park will benefit Parade St Damians Junior Football Club as well as the Plenty Valley Cricket Club and Watsonia Sporting Club, who will make it their temporary home during major construction of North East Link. The grounds will be available for the community when not used by local clubs.

Ford Park, Bellfield

A new pavilion, natural turf AFL/cricket oval and multi-use court is now ready, as well as a public exercise circuit, cricket practice nets, a basketball half court and upgraded car parking.

The Ford Park upgrades will benefit Ivanhoe Junior Football Club and Bellfield Cricket Club, as well as accommodating the Yarra Junior Football League (YJFL) who will be moving from Bulleen Park while North East Link is built.

The facilities are all part of a $68 million investment in sports upgrades across the north and east, ahead of major works on the project.

Official matches on the upgraded southern oval will start at the beginning of the 2022 season and the grounds will be available for the community to have a kick to kick when not used by local clubs.

A community open day will be held later this year at both parks to celebrate the completion of the new sports facilities, which will be a chance for locals and sports clubs to check out the upgrades and meet with the project team. Keep an eye on our social channels for details.
