North East Community Fund helps shape local projects

Community groups are set to benefit from a new fund to support local projects as North East Link is built.

The $10 million North East Community Fund will provide 3 categories of funding with grants, partnerships and sponsorships for not-for-profit groups and community projects.

The NECF means community groups can deliver projects, initiatives and events in Melbourne’s north east during the construction of North East Link, ensuring that the community benefits of the project start now. From Greensborough, Watsonia to Yallambie and other suburbs across the north east, the fund will support projects big and small, bringing lasting community benefits to areas most impacted by construction.

The first funding round is open now and community groups, not-for-profits, sports clubs and schools are encouraged to apply for grants of up to and above $100,000 to deliver community projects both big and small.

Projects could include tree planting, support for local events and festivals, new sports equipment, community art initiatives or community playgroups.

A series of free grant writing workshops will be run to coincide with each application period for grants and partnerships to help applicants understand the eligibility criteria and develop their applications.
