Foundations for future Yarra Link green bridge taking shape

Drivers travelling on Bulleen Road will notice a change of scenery with beams forming part of the future Yarra Link green bridge now in place.

16 beams were lifted into place over Bulleen Road, each weighing approximately 60 tonnes, with the 8 additional smaller beams also installed to support the structure.

For crews to complete works safely, Bulleen Road was closed near Bulleen Park across 2 consecutive weekends.

These beams form the base of the bridge, with floor panels to be installed and concrete slabs to be poured next, forming the bridge deck.

More beams will be installed over the tunnel entry and exit as construction progresses.

When complete, the two-hectare Yarra Link Green Bridge will connect Koonung Creek Trail to Bulleen Park for the first time.

The surrounding area will be planted with indigenous trees, grasses and shrubs with a yarning circle and paths to provide a cultural educational journey across the bridge.

There will also be barbecues and fitness equipment to provide opportunities for the local community to enjoy the space and take in views of the Yarra River.

The Yarra Link green bridge is being delivered as part of North East Link’s 34 kms of new and upgraded walking and cycling paths.

Upgrades include improvements to the M80 Trail, Main Yarra Trail and Koonung Creek Trail, along with the new North East Trail, as well as more than 40 new bridges and crossings.
