As part of the North East Community Fund, 79 new community projects will share in more than $1.45 million in grants and partnerships for local projects.
It’s part of a $10 million fund that has been set up to help support local projects during construction of North East Link. The fund helps projects big and small, bringing lasting community benefits to areas most impacted by construction.
This year’s round of grants and partnerships have been awarded to community groups and organisations for festivals, events, and upgrades to local infrastructure and community, sporting and recreational facilities.
Some of the recipients of the latest round of the grants include Bundoora Bowling Club who will purchase bowling equipment to attract new participants, Ajani Neighbourhood House to connect community through memory, music and movement, Victorian Chinese Culture and Arts Association who will hold a crafts and food festival, and Rosanna Golf Links Primary School who will upgrade their playground.
The funding comes as work is continuing on North East Link, with tunnel boring machines on their way from Watsonia to Bulleen, and work well underway to upgrade the Eastern Freeway and M80 Ring Road to connect with the 6.5 km tunnels.
Applications for the next round of North East Community Fund grants and partnerships will open next year.
