Passengers travelling between Bendigo and Echuca are saving up to 5 minutes on their journeys from today.
Trains have returned to the line after upgrades were completed to a 60km section of track between Goornong and Echuca as part of the Bendigo and Echuca Line Upgrade.
More than 190 people worked for more than 19,000 hours while trains were not running. They replaced close to 15,000 sleepers and more than 50,000 tonnes of ballast.
Upgrades to bridges and drainage took place to make the line more reliable.
These major works will allow trains to travel at up to 100km/h between Goornong and Echuca, up from 80km/h. This will benefit passengers using the new stations at Goornong and Huntly delivered as part of the project.
Trains have travelled at up to 130 km/h between Epsom and Goornong since December 2021 – an increase of up to 50km/h - thanks to earlier works.
The project tripled the number of services to and from Echuca on weekdays last year.
There are changes to arrival and departure times between Echuca and Bendigo from today. New timetables are available at the Public Transport Victoria website, the V/Line website, and PTV’s journey planner app.
These latest track upgrades will allow for further time savings as part of future timetable changes.
