December construction blitz on the Warrnambool Line

Back to Newsfeed

Upgrades to the Warrnambool Line will continue this summer to enable more frequent and reliable services for passengers in Victoria’s south west.

Signalling infrastructure will be installed at Boorcan to support the crossing loop’s operation following commissioning next year.

Trenching, cabling and track installation was completed earlier this year for the 2.2 km crossing loop, with radio towers to be installed in this section to help improve train monitoring and boost reliability on the line.

A communication and power equipment room will be fitted out to house new signalling infrastructure in this section of the line, while additional signalling infrastructure will be installed between Waurn Ponds and Warrnambool.

A construction compound has also been established at Warrnambool Station to support signalling upgrades in this part of the line.

Works will also continue at Waurn Ponds Station, with the new station forecourt to be completed and fittings for the stairs, ramps and overpass to be finalised during the upcoming summer works.

Coaches will replace trains between Warrnambool and Geelong, and buses between Waurn Ponds and South Geelong, from Saturday 27 November to Sunday 12 December 2021.
