Work on major rail projects in Victoria’s south-west will progress this spring, with disruptions to train services between Geelong and Warrnambool in September and November.

Coaches will replace trains from Saturday, 2 September to Sunday, 10 September and from Wednesday, 8 November to Thursday, 23 November for works on the South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Duplication and Stage 2 of the Warrnambool Line Upgrade.

Key infrastructure between South Geelong and Waurn Ponds will start to take shape, with the new rail bridge at Surf Coast Highway to be lifted into place during a weekend road closure between Baanip Boulevard and the level crossing from 9.30am Friday 22 September to 6.30am Tuesday 26 September.

Work will continue on major upgrades to South Geelong and Marshall stations, preparing for the new second platforms, pedestrian overpasses and ramps.

At South Geelong Station, three new canopies will be delivered and constructed for the new forecourts, with construction to continue on the new station building and second platform.

At Marshall Station, concrete works will take place to form the foundations and footings of the new ramps and station building, along with cable installation and asphalting in the temporary car park.

Upgrades to train detection technology will continue as part of Stage 2 of the Warrnambool Line Upgrade. Work at 17 level crossings in Boorcan, Camperdown, Terang, Warrnambool and Winchelsea will include site investigations, trenching, cable installation and access track construction.

This work is part of upgrades to more than 50 public level crossings on the Warrnambool Line, which will allow modern VLocity trains to run to Warrnambool for the first time.
