Huntly and Raywood station opening celebrations

Back to Newsfeed

Community members in the growing areas of Huntly and Raywood gathered at their new stations this month to celebrate their opening and mark the reconnection of their booming towns to Victoria’s regional rail network.

The celebrations included a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony performed by Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation representatives, live music, a SEDA cricket activation, petting zoo, and face painting.

Hot drinks and snags warmed up community members on the chilly mornings at the events, amongst other tasty treats, including donuts and ice cream.

Train services returned to Huntly on Saturday 16 July, after 68 years, while the first train in more than 40 years arrived at Raywood on Sunday 17 July.

Work is now complete on the 3 new Victorian Government funded stations delivered as part of the Bendigo and Echuca Line Upgrade.

Huntly and Raywood stations joined the new Goornong Station, on the Echuca Line, which opened in December 2021.
