Local communities and passengers in the state’s south-west are benefitting from a boost to safety on the Warrnambool Line with upgrades to 12 level crossings now complete.

V/Line delivered the upgrades as part of the early works for the Warrnambool Line Upgrade, which has seen the 12 level crossings upgraded to full protection with boom gates, flashing lights, bells and improved train detection technology, boosting safety for motorists, pedestrians and train passengers.

Works first kicked off in January and were completed in early September with the final three level crossings at Bourkes Road in Warncoort, Station Road in Pirron Yallock and Armytage Road in Winchelsea upgraded to full protection.

All 12 level crossing are now in operation, including Ayreys Reserve Road in Birregurra, Swan Marsh-Stonyford Road in Swans Marsh, Deans Creek Road in Colac, Station Road in Garvoc, Coyles Road in Terang, Oswells Road in Boorcan, Buckley South Road in Buckley, Waltons Road in Buckley and Hunts Road in Moriac.

Construction took place under modified working conditions in line with strict protocols to ensure the protection of workers and the community so that these important upgrades could be completed safely.

These level crossing upgrades build on the 22 delivered by the Victorian Government on the Warrnambool Line as part of the Safer Country Crossings Program in 2017.
