More reliable Shepparton Line journeys on track

Back to Newsfeed

Major works to upgrade the Shepparton Line will take place this spring, with train services disrupted during October and November.

Coaches will replace trains between Southern Cross and Shepparton from Sunday 1 October until Friday 24 November for works on the third and final stage of the Shepparton Line Upgrade.

Upgrades to enable trains to travel faster and made services more reliable will progress, including replacing sleepers and ballast, and upgrading bridges and culverts on more than 25 kilometres of track between Mangalore and Murchison East.

At Toolamba, track turnouts on the north and south side of the Wren Street level crossing will be upgraded.

Improvements to train detection technology at level crossings between Donnybrook and Mangalore will be finalised, further boosting safety for train passengers and road users.

Stage 2 delivered the infrastructure required for VLocity trains to run to and from Shepparton for the first time in late 2022, improving service reliability and providing passengers with more comfortable journeys.

A new train stabling facility north of Shepparton to house VLocity trains and extended passing loop at Murchison East came into operation in April of this year.
