Shepparton Line Upgrade complete

The final stage of the Shepparton Line Upgrade is now complete.

Crews worked approximately 22,000 hours during a 45-day construction blitz last December to deliver additional stabling for VLocity trains, an extended passing loop, as well as a new signalling and train control system to enable the line to support more weekday V/Line services between Shepparton and Melbourne.

The new signalling system will also maximise the benefits of close to 40km of track upgraded by the project, and builds on the investment in the first 2 stages of the Shepparton Line Upgrade, which delivered a stabling upgrade at Shepparton and 10 additional train services each week.

Upgrades to Mooroopna, Murchison East and Nagambie stations, improvements to train detection at 59 level crossings, and new stabling to enable modern VLocity trains to operate on the line for the first time have also been delivered.

The Shepparton Line Upgrade is part of the Victorian and Australian governments’ $4 billion Regional Rail Revival program, which has upgraded every regional passenger line in Victoria, improving accessibility and enabling almost 400 new and extended train services each week across the state.
