Work to modernise the Shepparton Line and improve journeys for passengers will continue in March and April when coaches replace trains.
Crews will carry out complex signalling work, safety testing and driver training, putting the finishing touches on Stage 2 of the Shepparton Line Upgrade. This will allow the project’s remaining new infrastructure to be added to the network.
The new stabling facility north of Shepparton, and the extended passing loop at Murchison East, will begin operating after train services resume.
The extended loop will allow a 1200-metre freight train and two six-car VLocity trains to pass each other. This will make services more reliable and boost capacity on the line ahead of the introduction of nine daily return services after Stage 3 is complete.
V/Line will continue installing new equipment as part of work to deliver a modern signalling system between Craigieburn and Seymour. This includes computer-based interlocking and axle counters. V/Line will also use the time to complete its annual maintenance on the line.
Coaches will replace trains between Southern Cross, Seymour and Shepparton from Wednesday 8 March, to Saturday 1 April.
From Sunday 2 April to Thursday 6 April, coaches will replace regional trains between Seymour and Shepparton, connecting with trains between Southern Cross and Seymour.
