Another intersection is set for vital improvements as the Epping Road Upgrade works toward its goal of safer, more reliable travel.
From today, crews will start major civil works to upgrade the road’s intersection with Fletcher Street in Epping following ongoing utilities relocation works in recent months.
The works at this intersection will include building sections of the new southbound lanes on Epping Road, a traffic island and new and improved turning lanes in and out of Fletcher Street.
Fletcher Street will remain closed at Epping Road until mid-September so crews can safely complete the intersection upgrade.
Epping Road will remain open in both directions, and access to Fletcher Street will be maintained via Hayston Boulevard and Findon Road. Access to businesses and private property will be maintained at all times.
Drivers should plan their journeys and allow extra time when travelling through the area.
The commencement of works at Fletcher Street follows the project’s completion in February of works to upgrade Epping Road’s key intersection with Baltrum Drive.
The project will also upgrade other key intersections at Hayston Boulevard, Park Street, Harvest Home Road, Pine Park Drive and Lehmanns Road.
Crews are also continuing critical works to relocate and protect essential services as part of the project.
Along with the intersection and services works, the Epping Road Upgrade is adding extra lanes between Craigieburn Road East in Wollert, and Memorial Avenue in Epping. The project will also build sections of shared walking and cycling paths and new on-road bicycle lanes to improve safety and connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists.
Due for completion in 2025, the upgrade will provide safer, more-reliable journeys for the 35,000 drivers who use Epping Road daily in Melbourne’s north.
