Motorists in Melbourne’s west will benefit from a safer and more efficient intersection, with new traffic lights at the upgraded Ballan Road, McGrath Road and Greens Road intersection set to turn on Monday 9 November, three months ahead of schedule.
The Ballan Road Intersection Upgrade is transforming one of Wyndham Vale’s busiest and most congested intersections, improving safety and traffic flow for the more than 30,000 vehicles that use the intersection each day, while making it easier and safer for pedestrians and cyclists to move through the area.
To prepare for the new traffic lights to be switched on, the intersection will be closed at night from 8pm Thursday 5 November to 5am Friday 6 November and over the weekend from 8pm Friday 6 November until 5am Monday 9 November. Detours will be in place and motorists should allow 30 minutes of extra travel time.
During the closure, crews will remove temporary construction barriers, complete remaining kerb and traffic islands, lay road pavement and line-mark the road, and turn on and test the new traffic lights.
Drivers should follow the below detours during the weekend closure:
- Werribee-bound: via Bolton Road, Heaths Road and Greaves Street north
- Manor Lakes-bound: via Hooker Road, Rowes Road, Heaths Road and Bolton Road, or via Greaves Street north, Heaths Road and Bolton Road.
Access to local businesses will remain available throughout the closure, with traffic controllers helping customers reach shops and services. Locals are encouraged to keep up their support for shops.
Customers travelling to the BP, eateries and Car & Dog Wash can access the McGrath Road north driveway via Bolton Road, with traffic controllers guiding vehicles at the driveway.
Customers travelling to 7-Eleven, the medical clinic and pharmacy and Ultra Tune can access the McGrath Road south driveway via Cambridge Crescent or Honour Avenue.
Following the opening of the new intersection at 5am, Monday 9 November, crews will continue work to complete final pavement and permanent line-marking. There will be closures at the Ballan Road, Greens Road and McGrath Road intersection between 8pm and 5am each night from mid to late November, with the closures and detours changing as works progress.
