Bridge Inn Road Upgrade set for early completion in huge boost for travel

The Bridge Inn Road Upgrade is set to complete major works ahead of schedule in 2024 in a huge boost for travel, safety and reliability in Melbourne’s north.

Initially scheduled for completion in 2025, the project will complete all major works and open all new and upgraded lanes to traffic between Plenty Road in Mernda and Yan Yean Road in Doreen before the end of the year.

The upgrade will help reduce travel times, improve safety and boost connectivity to homes, businesses and local amenities including Mernda’s train station and town centre.

The project is adding extra lanes in both directions, upgrading five key intersections and building sections of shared path between Plenty and Yan Yean roads.

The upgrade has also built a new four-lane bridge over Plenty River and is repurposing the neighbouring historic bluestone bridge as part of the shared path for pedestrians and cyclists.

As the major works approach completion, new lanes will start to open in stages over the coming months, as final works are completed on sections of the upgrade.

Crews will continue to undertake minor works including landscaping and other finishing works along Bridge Inn Road over the coming months. For the safety of crews completing these works, some lane closures will be in place on Bridge Inn Road at certain times.

The project will also soon switch on new traffic lights at the pedestrian crossing near Ivanhoe Grammar School in a boost for the safety of students and staff.

Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) and construction partner Laing O’Rourke are delivering the Bridge Inn Road Upgrade.
