One of Wyndham Vale’s busiest roundabouts will be removed as part of the Ballan Road Intersection Upgrade, with the contract for the project now awarded.
We will deliver the upgrade in partnership with construction company Symal to improve traffic flow, ease peak congestion, and make it safer to drive, walk and cycle through the area.
The scope of the project includes:
- replacing the congested roundabout at Ballan Road, Greens Road and McGrath Road north with a new traffic light intersection, adding extra lanes to improve travel time and journey reliability
- installing new traffic lights at the intersection of Ballan Road and McGrath Road south near the 7-Eleven, making it safer and easier to turn right towards Werribee
- providing signalised pedestrian crossings and shared walking and cycling paths to make it safer and easier to move between homes, schools, services and businesses
- introducing a new bus priority lane on Ballan Road to improve public transport reliability.
The Ballan Road Intersection Upgrade will also build up to 800m of walking and cycling paths at the intersection, offering safer travel options for local community.
This project is part of a major investment in road infrastructure upgrades across Melbourne’s west, including the soon-to-be completed West Gate Tunnel. It builds on other local road upgrades such as Werribee Main Road-Princes Freeway, Point Cook Road and Central Avenue Intersection Upgrade, and the Ison Road Project.
We will start utility relocations and site establishment works from November, paving the way for major construction to begin in early 2026.
