Divers might not be synonymous with major road works, but the Lathams Road Upgrade recently welcomed one to our project site as we close in on the end of major construction.
Divers have been assisting us in the drainage upgrade at Boggy Creek, which will protect the upgraded Lathams Road and surrounding areas against storms and flooding events for decades to come.
Last November a diver submerged 3 metres into a pit near the Melbourne Water pipe that outlets a large amount of stormwater drainage for Carrum Downs and Seaford into Boggy Creek. There, they installed a plug that would stop all water flow, so Boggy Creek could be drained in preparation for culvert upgrade works.
In July 2023, a diver returned to remove the plug, allowing water to now flow freely through the upgraded culvert between Carrum Downs, Seaford and Boggy Creek.
And in a major milestone for the project, drivers are now enjoying smoother journeys on Lathams Road with all new lanes opening in late July.
We’re now continuing our finishing works with more than 6,000 tonnes of asphalt already placed.
To complete the final stage of these works, we will need to close all eastbound lanes on Hall Road between the Frankston-Dandenong Road intersection and Lavender Lane from 7pm Thursday 24 August to 5am Monday 28 August, so we can upgrade the road surface and lay the final asphalt layer.
We’ll work around the clock to complete these works and minimise impacts to traffic and resident driveways. However, the works’ timing will be dependent on weather conditions and may need to be rescheduled on short notice.
Over the coming months, we will complete landscaping, minor pavement work and connect the project’s new walking and cycling path to the Peninsula Link Trail.
