We're moving into the next major stage of the Ballan Road Intersection Upgrade this winter, with construction set to begin on the southern half of the Ballan, McGrath and Greens roads intersection in Wyndham Vale.
The upgrade will improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and make it safer for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists travelling through one of the most congested intersections in Wyndham Vale.
To enable the next stage of construction, major traffic changes and temporary road closures will be in place between Thursday 18 June and Monday 22 June 2026 as crews switch traffic onto newly built lanes and relocate barriers to begin the next stage of major works.
From 5am Monday 22 June, McGrath Road north will reopen with left in and left out access only, while Greens Road and McGrath Road south at Ballan Road will close until early 2027 as works ramp up on the next stage of the Ballan Road Intersection Upgrade.
The switch marks a significant milestone for the project, as construction moves to the southern half of one of Wyndham Vale’s busiest and most congested intersections.
The closure will then remain in place from 8pm Friday 19 June until 8pm Sunday 21 June while crews remove existing asphalt and lay new pavement.
Detours will be in place via Bolton Road and Greaves Street North for Werribee-bound traffic, and via Greens Road, Armstrong Road and Manor Lakes Boulevard for Manor Lakes-bound traffic.
From 8pm Sunday 21 June until 5am Monday 22 June, the Ballan/McGrath/Greens roads intersection will be fully closed while crews relocate barriers and complete line marking works.
From 5am Monday 22 June until early 2027, while McGrath Road south and Greens Road are closed at Ballan Road, the below changes will be in place:
- Ballan Road will operate with 1 lane in each direction
- the temporary roundabout at Ballan Rd/McGrath/Greens road will be removed
- McGrath Road north will reopen with left in/left out access.
Building the intersection in stages allows traffic to continue moving along Ballan Road for most of construction.
Access to homes, local businesses and essential services including Wyndham Vale Healthcare, the pharmacy, 7-Eleven and Ultra Tune will remain available throughout works with both the Ballan Road and McGrath Road south shop driveways open.
Pedestrian and cyclist detours will also be in place, with temporary crossings and updated signage installed to help people move safely through the area.
Public transport changes will affect bus routes 190 and 191, with some stops temporarily closed and detours in place. Passengers are encouraged to check the Public Transport Victoria website before travelling.
