Major works commence on Ballan Road

The Ballan Road Intersection Upgrade started works on Thursday 15 January, with the existing roundabout being demolished.

To prepare for major works, crews are demolishing the existing roundabout and installing concrete safety barriers around the work zone. A temporary roundabout and pavement will keep traffic moving while construction is underway as crews build and upgrade the area behind the barriers.

Service investigations also took place on Thursday 15 and Friday 16 January, closing McGrath Road (North) at Ballan Road from 9am to 3pm each day.

Moving into the more significant works as part of stage 1 and 2, from 5am on Monday 19 January, McGrath Road (North) was closed at Ballan Road and will be until late 2026. Detours are via Ballan and Bolton roads. Drivers should allow an extra 20 minutes.

Access to local shops will remain open throughout construction but will look a bit different from time to time. From early February, right turns from Ballan Road into the shop precincts north and south of Ballan Road will be removed.

A temporary traffic light controlled pedestrian crossing will be installed on Ballan Road near the medical centre from Monday 2 February. Crews will also move the school crossing on Ballan Road north of the roundabout further away from the construction works for safety.

Bus route 190 will have two stops closed long-term; use alternate stops on Ballan Road located near Buckingham Drive or Bolton Road.

Construction will continue behind barriers on the northern side of Ballan Road through until late 2026. Following that, work will move to the southern side of the intersection later in the year.

The upgrade to the intersection of Ballan, McGrath and Greens roads in Wyndham Vale will improve traffic flow, ease congestion and make it safer for all road users.
