Progress is continuing on Stage 2 of the O’Herns Road Upgrade with brand new lanes now open on O’Herns Road between the Hume Freeway and Manor House Drive.
With the majority of pavement works on O’Herns Road now complete, traffic has been moved onto the newly built eastbound lanes, with one lane open in each direction.
This arrangement will remain in place until mid-2021, while works continue on building the westbound lanes.
Stage 2 includes:
- three new signalised intersections along O’Herns Road
- a diamond interchange providing direct access to the Hume Freeway
- adding a new lane in each direction between the Hume Freeway and Redding Rise along O’Herns Road.
The upgrade will also add new lanes on the Hume Freeway between Cooper Street and O’Herns Road.
The project is now over halfway, with more than 325,000 hours of work put in so far and more than 5,500 tonnes of asphalt laid.
In the coming weeks, major works will continue on the new O’Herns Road interchange to the Hume Freeway.
From late February, the final 12 bridge beams will be placed over the freeway to complete the widening of O’Herns Road bridge.
The O'Herns Road Upgrade is expected to be complete in mid-2021.
