With major construction complete on Narre Warren North Road’s newly built southbound lanes between Belgrave-Hallam and Fox roads, crews have turned their attention to building the new center median.
This marks the beginning of the final stage of road widening works for the Narre Warren North Road Upgrade. In early March, bollards were moved around the centre median and both carriageways were opened with 1 lane operating in each direction to allow crews to build the centre median, install guard rail and the traffic lights at Memorial Drive as well as complete landscaping works.
Works on the Narre Warren North Road Upgrade have been under way this month to:
- place the final layer of asphalt over Narre Warren North Road
- finish the final road works over Troups Creek
- install underground cables, traffic lights and light poles at Memorial Drive
- install the centre guardrail on Narre Warren North Road
- commence building driveways along the northbound lanes
- complete minor works at the Heatherton Road intersection.
The left turn into Memorial Drive also reopened in early-March.
Narre Warren North Road provides vital north-south connectivity in Melbourne’s growing south-eastern suburbs. In 2021, more than 18,000 road users travelled along Narre Warren North Road between Fox and Belgrave-Hallam roads.
Improving safety is a key project priority, with the frequency of crashes on Narre Warren North Road between Fox Road and Belgrave-Hallam Road being twice the average of the entire outer south east metropolitan road network.
The project will also improve active transport options by upgrading existing and building new walking and cycling paths and providing better public transport connections.
Construction on the Narre Warren North Road Upgrade is expected to be completed ahead of schedule in mid-2023.
