We’ve been upgrading and building new walking and cycling paths across the Hallam North and Heatherton Road Upgrade project. Many of the paths are complete and open to the public with the remaining paths nearing completion.
As part of these upgrades, we’re installing a new 120 meter long recycled rubber pedestrian path on the northern side of Heatherton Road between the intersection and Kanaru Court. The material is derived from 100% reclaimed rubber, and is a sustainable way to reduce our carbon footprint.
Once all paths are complete, the community will be able to walk or cycle safely through the area and will be better connected to local businesses and schools.
Leaving our legacy
As part of the project, we’re building a new seating area on the southern side of Heatherton Road near the intersection (pictured above).
This community space will include bench seats, bike hoops and a water fountain. It will also feature reclaimed historic fence posts and an interpretation panel describing the history of the local area. A second panel will also be installed displaying traditional Bunurong artwork created by a group of Year 3 students from Thomas Mitchell Primary School.
The seating area was designed to strengthen the connection between people and their local community through the acknowledgement of the history and Aboriginal culture in the area, leaving a legacy not only for the project but for the people who reside in Endeavour Hills.
