Recently more than 700 local Narre Warren North kids got their personal protective equipment (PPE) and boots on for STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) Week!
Project team members from the Narre Warren North Road Upgrade visited local schools, Narre Warren North Primary School and Mary Mackillop Primary School, to roll out a range of interactive activities that got students learning about STEM.
It’s fair to say that the enthusiasm and commitment of the project team was more than matched by the students, who eagerly participated in everything that was on offer.
Activities weren’t confined to the classroom as students visited our construction site compound, with some even sitting in the driver’s seat of a digger!
Back at the schools, the students learned how a bridge is built and got creative in constructing their own. Ingenuity was abundant, with recycled and re-purposed domestic materials transformed into an impressive variety of crafty bridges.
Our team also delivered a presentation showcasing some of the careers available in the infrastructure industry including:
- engineering
- environment
- sustainability
- safety
- communications.
Road safety sessions and games were another feature of the week. Hosted by one of our traffic controllers, the presentation had the objective of building road safety awareness around construction projects.
To finish the week, students came to school with their boots and hi-vis vests for a construction themed dress up day.
Thank you to local schools, Narre Warren North Primary School and Mary Mackillop Primary Schools, for helping to inspire the next generation of infrastructure experts.
