Sunbury Road Upgrade calling local artists to brighten Jacksons Creek bridge

Back to Newsfeed

We're looking to enlist an established local artist or artist team to develop a permanent public artwork for the new Jacksons Creek bridge as part of the Sunbury Road Upgrade.

Expressions of Interest (EOI) are open to create a new large-scale mural to brighten the retaining wall alongside the bridge – that will reflect Sunbury's significance to the community. The artwork will be painted onto the retaining wall using specialised paints.

The selected artist or artist team will be tasked with creating an iconic artwork that will also complement the architectural design of the bridge.

Commission for the retaining wall will be by invitation, with the shortlisted artist to be contacted in coming weeks.

Construction of the new Jacksons Creek bridge will be finished by the end of the year, doubling capacity and reducing delays faced by drivers travelling between existing and emerging communities and the Sunbury town centre, as well as accommodating future residential and commercial growth along Sunbury Road.

More than 24,000 drivers rely on Sunbury Road each day with the existing 2 lane bridge causing delays during the morning and afternoon peaks.

Applications closed at 11:59pm on Friday 4 August 2023.

Members of the public are also invited to have their say on the theme of the mural. Share your ideas today and be part of this creative journey. Together, we'll create a mural that embodies Sunbury's community spirit.
