Supporting women to become engineers on the Clyde Road Upgrade

Back to Newsfeed

International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) is on 23 June each year, and is a day to celebrate female engineers, and encourage more girls to pursue a career in engineering.

The Clyde Road Upgrade is helping several young female engineering students gain hands-on experience thanks to our construction partner, Seymour Whyte, who shares our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive construction industry.

Two of these include Alicia, who’s in her second last year of engineering studies, and Winnie who recently started her engineering journey.

Alecia said INWED reminded her to feel proud of what she’s achieving, and proud of the countless women across the industry who’ve paved the way for young girls like her.

“I think I’m still getting used to the idea that I’ll be an engineer one day, but INWED reminds me to stay focused and continue working towards my goal,” said Winnie.

Once complete, the Clyde Road Upgrade will benefit local communities and the 30,000 people who use Clyde Road each day by:

  • providing better access for locals and visitors to surrounding schools, hospitals, businesses, and Berwick Station
  • enhancing connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists travelling north or south on Clyde Road
  • providing easier and safer access to the Princes Freeway
  • building on the benefits delivered by the removal of the level crossing at Clyde Road and Enterprise Avenue
  • building on the recent upgrades to Thompsons, O’Shea and Narre WarrenCranbourne roads
  • improving traffic flow and reducing congestion to get you home sooner and safer.
