Works ramping up on Epping Road Upgrade

Back to Newsfeed

Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) is keeping traffic moving as work ramps up on the Epping Road Upgrade.

Important works are underway to relocate and protect essential underground services as part of the upgrade.

The works involve relocating and protecting 17km of gas and water pipes and electricity and telecommunications cabling, which is enough to encircle the MCG oval almost 36 times.

Construction teams are carefully moving and reconnecting the pipes, wires and cables while minimising supply disruptions for the thousands of customers relying on the services daily.

The teams are also using specialist equipment to monitor and manage noise and dust impacts on nearby residents and businesses.

Progressive day works will continue through spring to minimise disruption for all users of Epping Road.

Traffic changes including temporary road closures and detours will be in place to help crews safely conduct the works.

Certain road closures and detours will need to occur multiple times along Epping Road due to the complexity of the works.

Completion of the services works will allow crews to begin building the upgrade's new lanes in each direction between Craigieburn Road East and Memorial Avenue.

The project will also improve six intersections and connections for pedestrians and cyclists.

The upgrade will provide safer, more-reliable journeys for the 35,000 drivers who use Epping Road daily in Melbourne’s north.

The upgrade is due for completion in 2025.

More information about the project, including traffic changes, is available on our Epping Road Upgrade page.
