Around-the-clock activities to enjoy while supporting your local traders.
As we build Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East, it’s a great opportunity to explore your local neighbourhood and try new activities while helping local businesses. Shops and restaurants remain open during construction, and there are plenty of great things to discover.
Take a trip around your neighbourhood.
Rise and shine
Start the day on a bright note with a visit to The Penny Drop on Whitehorse Road. With plenty of restaurant seating, it’s a lovely place to catch up with friends for breakfast or lunch.
Café Faducci is perfect for grabbing a coffee and croissant in the Box Hill mall, Chill Chill Café offers delicious ice brews and Milk Flower is renowned for its dessert and yoghurt-infused drinks.
Be active from morning to night
Ever wanted to try martial arts?
Strikefit offers a range of boxing classes from fitness boxing to Muay Thai techniques, and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu offers classes for kids, women and men from beginners to advanced.
With SRL works underway, there may be changed traffic and parking conditions along Sinnott Street, Burwood.
Midday munchies
The Chinese Muslim beef noodles from Bowltiful Halal Lanzhou Beef Noodle are made with halal meat, fresh herbs, and without soy sauce, resulting in a lighter, more delicate flavour – great for lunch.
Try Tang for piping hot noodles, delicious dumplings and tasty mains, or head to Kitchen Republik for popular Taiwanese street food.
A little pampering
Tend to all things hair and beauty within a short walk of Box Hill train station. Locals love Element Hair Salon for luscious locks, while Ocean King in Box Hill Central has a wide range of health, wellbeing and duty-free products from skin care to Manuka honey.
Delicious dinners
When the sun has set and you’re after a nice meal, Tina’s Noodle Kitchen is well-known for its signature dishes, including hot and spicy Sichuan cuisine and a variety of rice noodle soups. The soups come in mild, milky, clear or slightly sour flavours – try them out and see which one takes your fancy!
For steamy hotpot or tasty BBQ skewers, Qipo Skewer Bar on Whitehorse Road is a great spot – literally steps from the tram stop.
Construction underway in Burwood and Box Hill
As you explore these fantastic local shops, restaurants and activities, you’ll notice plenty of construction happening around Burwood and Box Hill.
Crews are moving underground services, building a tunnel boring machine launch site in Burwood and a temporary bridging structure on Whitehorse Road to keep traffic moving during construction.
While we build SRL East we’re working hard to minimise impacts on the community and local businesses and traders.
