Brand new open space on the way for Box Hill

New open spaces are on the way for Box Hill locals to enjoy during SRL major works, when areas of Box Hill Gardens will be impacted during construction.

This includes an additional half hectare of temporary open space at Victoria Crescent, Mont Albert – within walking distance of the Gardens – and we want your help to design it.

If you are part of the Box Hill community, have your say on the new open space by Monday 2 December 2024 at Engage Victoria.

Permanent open spaces will be delivered at 2 other sites - in Watts and Court streets, and Ellingworth Parade - as well as enhancements of Box Hill Gardens for the community to enjoy. Work at these sites will be delivered in consultation with Whitehorse City Council and the community.

While most of Box Hill Gardens will remain open and available to the public while SRL East is under construction – including the playground, barbecue, netball and basketball courts, and the running track – we are providing these new open spaces for the community enjoy while areas of the gardens are required during construction.

SRL will open up access to health, education and employment in Melbourne’s east and south east, with direct train lines to Monash and Deakin universities. And as Australia’s largest housing project, it will help deliver thousands more homes where people want to live - close to public transport, jobs and services.

Box Hill’s new underground SRL station will deliver faster, more reliable travel to the area’s famous cafes and restaurants, Box Hill Institute and Box Hill Hospital. The station will include a convenient connection to the existing rail station, and a new linear park along Whitehorse Road.
