Take a look at what the neighbourhoods around Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East stations could look like in the future – and be part of the planning process.
We’ve released concept images of Cheltenham, Clayton, Monash, Glen Waverley, Burwood and Box Hill – showing vibrant, attractive public spaces surrounding the stations with new shops and restaurants, as well as more diverse housing options.
Explore the Draft Precinct Vision for your area and share your feedback on the proposed opportunities to help shape a bright future for these neighbourhoods.
SRL East from Cheltenham to Box Hill will help deliver more jobs, local infrastructure, and quality and affordable housing in Melbourne’s middle suburbs, close to public transport and where people want to live.
The Draft Precinct Visions set out new planning and land use opportunities, building on the important conversations we’ve been having with the community for several years about the future of these neighbourhoods.
The draft visions are designed to trigger discussion and will continue to evolve through the structure planning process, with ongoing opportunities for feedback, both online and face-to-face.
In Cheltenham, a new public square spanning both sides of Bay Road could bring together Southland Shopping Centre and Sir William Fry Reserve, with a network of open spaces and community areas.
In Clayton, the traditional heart of the suburb could be extended along Clayton Road north of the rail line, with more residents and businesses, landscaping to enhance the streets, improved safety and more public places with seating.
In Monash, the SRL station and a new town centre beside Monash University and CSIRO will provide a gateway to the area - with the potential for new streets, laneways, shops, restaurants and entertainment to create a vibrant atmosphere.
In Glen Waverley, the new underground station will be surrounded by a thriving civic and lifestyle centre with a wide range of shops, restaurants and entertainment for residents and visitors, as well as local services and more diverse housing close to public transport.
In Burwood, the new SRL station will become a focal point for the community, with shops and restaurants attracting students, residents and visitors. Walking and cycling paths will connect to natural features including Gardiners Creek and Lundgren Chain Reserve.
The underground SRL station in Box Hill will be the centre of a vibrant community hub with new public space the size of Federation Square – including a linear park and a pedestrian boulevard linking Whitehorse Road to Box Hill Gardens.
