Draft structure plans and draft planning scheme amendments that will guide development in Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East neighbourhoods in coming years are now open for public feedback.
SRL will help deliver 70,000 additional homes to the neighbourhoods around the SRL East stations at Cheltenham, Clayton, Monash, Glen Waverley, Burwood and Box Hill – and an additional 230,000 jobs.
The areas around SRL East stations will be thriving, vibrant communities as they grow, with rules to protect sunlight over parks and open space, and ensure buildings are inviting at street level.
We have been speaking regularly with communities and other stakeholders for several years to map out the priorities, visions and directions for the future of these neighbourhoods. Nearly 10,000 responses and submissions have been received to date, helping shape the draft structure plans.
The draft plans and draft planning scheme amendments are supported by more than 60 technical studies, detailed analysis and ongoing consultation.
Construction of SRL East from Cheltenham to Box Hill is powering head, with works underway at all six station sites and the train stabling facility. Tunnel boring machines start arriving on site later this year and tunnelling will kick off in 2026. Trains will be taking passengers in 2035.

Submissions must be received by 11.59pm on Tuesday 22 April 2025.
