Two new green spaces are open for the Box Hill community to enjoy while we build Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East.
The space on Ellingworth Parade features a colourful playground, multi-use sports area and a large open lawn with Woi-wurrung language carved into sitting stones.
Nearby, the park on Watts and Court streets offers a nature play area for visitors to explore, climb and engage with natural materials.
The new open spaces have opened as crews prepare to start construction of the new SRL station in Box Hill, moving underground services and undertaking demolition.
Enhancements to Box Hill Gardens are also underway, including new fitness equipment, barbecues, a pavilion, seating and toilets. There is also an ‘aqua trail’ along the ornamental lake with designs showcasing traditional Wurundjeri freshwater foods.
The new underground SRL Box Hill station will be open in 2035, making Box Hill easier to reach and help people to get to the places they use every day, including the community’s thriving health, education and retail services.
Tunnelling of SRL East is now underway, and stations under construction at Burwood, Glen Waverley, Monash and Clayton. Construction of the stations at Box Hill and Cheltenham will begin soon.
