That’s a wrap for 2022

It’s been massive year for Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) with work powering ahead as we deliver Victoria’s biggest ever infrastructure project.

Construction started on SRL East between Cheltenham and Box Hill in June, a major milestone creating hundreds of local jobs and thousands more to come.

SRL East was formally approved following a rigorous Environment Effects Statement (EES) planning process.

In Clayton, we laid a new 630m sewer pipe using a micro tunnel boring machine (TBM), paving the way for major construction of the new transport super hub.

The kids at Goodstart Early Learning Centre named the tiny TBM Tracy the Treasure Hunter and toured our Dunstan Street construction site to learn about the diggers and tunnelling equipment.

Work started on Burwood’s new park and playground between Cumming Street and Gillard Street, following extensive community consultation. The new park will feature crowd favourites including slides, swings, a seesaw and climbing equipment.

The SRL Community Projects Fund is helping deliver 79 exciting new initiatives and projects for local community groups along the SRL East corridor, supporting local schools, sporting clubs and volunteers.

SRL Airport is taking flight, with works underway – connecting Victoria’s regional and metropolitan train network to Melbourne Airport for the very first time.

SRL received a further $2.2 billion from the Federal Government in October – another step towards reshaping where people live and work and supporting our quality of life for decades to come.

Three world class companies have been shortlisted to deliver 26km of twin tunnels with tunnelling to start in 2026.

Workers have safely clocked up nearly 3 million hours on the project so far, conducting ground investigations at more than 950 sites and thousands of lab tests.

Next year, there is even more exciting work in store. To stay up-to-date, subscribe to our eNews.
