What's in store for Box Hill construction blitz

Back to Newsfeed

SRL East construction is forging ahead, with a new tram stop unveiled in the heart of Box Hill to ensure tram services continue while SRL East is being built.

Our crews are busy in Box Hill preparing for tunnelling to start in 2026, moving several underground services to make way for the twin tunnels and new station.

And early next year workers will build a temporary bridging structure on Whitehorse Road – allowing 30,000 cars each day to keep moving throughout construction.

Whitehorse Road will be realigned between Nelson Road and Linsley Street to make way for a new linear park – creating more green public space and new pedestrian and bike paths.

The new underground SRL station will be open by 2035, with safe, traffic-free access between the SRL station and nearby public transport, and the new green boulevard along Whitehorse Road.

Locals will be able to take the train from Box Hill to Cheltenham in 22 minutes or to Monash University in 10 minutes.
