Upgrades have been completed at the Simcock Avenue and Douglas Parade intersection near Hyde Street in Spotswood, with brand-new traffic signals installed and a widened intersection.
These improvements include:
- a new northbound lane built to improve traffic flow and make room for the new access point to the Hyde Street ramp and the widened intersection.
- new left and right turning signals, pedestrian crossings and traffic islands at the intersection
- new street lights and line markings
The improved intersection will make it safer and easier pedestrians and motorists to access Simcock Avenue, particularly vehicles going onto the future outbound Hyde Street Ramp as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project.
Road users are reminded to take extra care when driving through the area and be mindful of the changed traffic conditions.
Crews will be carrying out some completion works in the future where they will close the Simcock Avenue/Douglas Parade intersection overnight to do the final layer of asphalting. During that time, access for business vehicles will be maintained.
Additional works between July and September
From late July to September 2023, there will also be a 24/7 closure of Simcock Avenue between Booker Street and Hall street for drainage and pavement works, line markings and street lighting installation.
